LA SALLE ZOBEL, BRITISH SCHOOL MANILA SHINE IN 2019 INTERSCHOOL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) and British School Manila (BSM) capped off the 2019 Interschool Golf Championships on a high note while Masaichi Otake and Jona Angela Magcalayo ruled the individual race recently.

DLSZ topped the junior high and senior high team divisions while BSM shone in the middle and lower schools category.

The DLSZ Team I had 575 while its second team landed second (584) in the senior high followed by Ateneo (577).

In junior high, DLSZ Team I scored 575 followed by Xavier (504) and DLSZ Team II (468).

Lower school division was bannered by BSM with 352 while Ateneo and Xavier School scored 350 and 298, respectively.

BSM also ruled the middle school with 580 followed by teams of Xavier at second (576) and third (366).

Meanwhile, Otake of DLSZ banked on best rounds of 52, 53, 57, and 54 to finish with 216 aggregate in the boys’ category. He was followed by compatriot Jolo Timothy Magcalayo at 214 (52, 53, 55, 54) and Perry Josef Bucay of Xavier with 211 (51, 57,49, 54).

DLSZ’s Angela Magcalayo topped the girls’ side after scoring 194 from rounds of 51, 50, 47, 46. Nikki Laude of BSM came in at second with 106 (20, 33, 30, 23) while Ayeesha Makayla Ong of Brent International School Manila (BISM) had 103 (21, 28, 24, 30) to settle at third.

Zachary Castro of DLSZ seized the lead in the junior high division with his 210 (48, 60, 49, 53) to beat Koreans Rho Hyun Ho of SSIS and Kim Tae Won, who landed at second and third places with 202 (48, 49, 51, 54) and 201 (45, 51, 52, 53), respectively.

Colegio San Agustin’s Anya Cedo wrest control of the girl’s junior high by capping off with 176 (42, 46, 41, 47) followed by Burberry Zhang of Brent (48, 38, 43, 43 – 172) and Jody Cassandra Castillo of Calvert Education (39, 41, 43, 37 – 160).

The middle school was bannered by Shinichi Suzuki of Saint Francis of Assisi College and Celine Abalos of Poveda.

Suzuki scored 200 (52, 48, 51, 49) to subdue BSM’s Armand Copok (45, 54, 47, 53 – 199) and Bhuvas Nagpal (54, 46, 50, 48 – 198).

Abalos, meanwhile, finished with 203 (55, 54, 39, 55) while first runner-up Reese Ng of BSM and second runner-up Venice Tiamsic of Colegio San Agustin carded 192 (51, 50, 40, 51) and 176 (41, 47, 39, 49 ), respectively.

In the lower school, Chan Ahn of Ateneo Cebu powered the boys’ division with 172 (43, 50, 37, 42) followed by Kyle Ng of BSM with 166 (39, 43, 38, 46) and Race Phoenix Manhit of Ateneo de Manila with 164 (45, 44, 38, 37).

Francesca Nicole Gan of Immaculate Concepcion Academy had 190 (49, 45, 46, 50) to rule the girls’ while Elena Katelyn Lanuza of DLSZ and Angelie Nichole Chua of Makati Hope Christian School came in with 144 (32, 34, 35, 43) and 102 (19, 33, 19, 31), respectively.

The top 36 players from the International and Philippine schools of the Interschool Golf Championship will see action in the Director’s Cup for the culminating event.

The two-day event will employ a matchplay format, wherein, the Team International Schools will go against Team Philippine Schools.

Participating golf courses during the Championships were Eagle Ridge, Valley Golf, Club Intramuros Golf Course, Southlinks Golf Club, Riviera Sports and Country Club.
