Arnie Taguines finished two-under par emerged as the overall champion in the Manila Southwoods Junior Golf Championships by scoring a two-under last May 31 at the Legends Course in Carmona, Cavite.
Taguines scored three birdies to negate her lone bogey at the front nine to seal her victory.
Samantha Dizon punched in a one-over par 73 to claim the top honors in the girls’ 13-18 division. She was followed by Mappy Singson at 74, Sabrina Macatangay at 86, Mallory Cua at 90, and Julianna Go at 101.
Sean Granada, meanwhile, took the charge in the boys’ 13-18 by scoring an even-par 72 and beat Pierre Ticzon and Jeff Jung by one stroke. David Guangko and Rho Hyun Ho settled for tied third with 74.
In the 12-and-under, Gabie Rosca and Shinichi Suzuki shone the brightest in their respective groupings.
Rosca submitted a 75 to snare the girls’ diadem followed by Lisa Sarines (78), Mikha Constantino (80), Precious Zaragosa (83), and Reese Ng (84).
Suzuki wounded up with 78 to beat Rafael Leonio (79), Santino Pineda (80), Vince Tiamsic (80), and Geoffrey Tan (83).
On the other hand, the top three players per age-group were honored by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP).
Ticzon, Guangko, and Vince Floro topped the boys’ 15-18 while Taguines, Singson, and Cua best their rivals in the girls’ side.
Granada returned to the podium finish in the boys’ 13-14 with Jung and Hyun Ho landing at second and third places, respectively.
It was Dizon, Macatangay, and Go who outplayed other jungolfers in the girls’ 13-14.
Other winners based on age groups were Suzuki, Pineda, Tiamsic (boys’ 11-12); Rosca, Constantino, Ng (girls’ 11-12); Leonio, Geoffrey Tan, Rocco Pineda (boys’ 10-under); and Sarines, Zaragosa, and Mona Sarines (girls’ 10-under).
The Manila Southwoods Junior Golf Championships was a certified Junior Order of Merit ranking event and was sanctioned by the JGFP.
