For the first time in history, a Philippine boys team gained an entry to the Toyota Junior World Cup Team Championship set next week at the Chukyo Golf Club in Toyota City, Nagoya, Japan.
Southeast Asian Games-bound players led by Aidric Chan, Carl Corpus, and Sean Jean Ramos will don the national colors together with Luigi Wong during the weeklong competition.
The Philippine Team advanced to the Toyota Junior World Cup after they defeated South Korea and Thailand during the Asian Junior Team Championship last September 2018 in Gunsan, South Korea.
The 2019 Toyota Junior World Cup was participated by 70 different national teams in qualifiers held in 6 different continents for the preliminaries. Only 15 teams will advanced for the boys and 9 teams for the girls who made the cut will compete for the coveted title. “We are looking forward to our Philippine boys’ junior team in their first appearance in the Toyota World Junior Golf Team Championship. It is an honor for us and to these players to represent our country with pride,” said Philippine Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) president Nikki Ng.
The team is accompanied by JGFP director and non-playing skipper Deo Chan and physical trainer coach Charlene Eusebio.
Other participating countries are Australia, Japan, United States, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland including some countries from Central and North America, Africa, and Caribbean Region.
The participation of athletes in the world tilt was made possible through the efforts and full support of the JGFP.
Meanwhile, a qualifying tournament will be staged in August for aspiring Asian Junior Team members. Details regarding the qualifier will be posted by JGFP as soon as available.
