RAMOS, DUQUE MOVE CLOSER TO IMG ACADEMY JUNIOR WORLD QUALIFIER TITLE

Sean Jean Ramos and Faustina Duque inched closer to the overall title by keeping the lead in the second round of the 2020 IMG Academy Junior World Qualifiers on Sunday at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.
Ramos, who earlier made a 75, carded a 77 for a 152-aggregate heading to the last round of the 54-hole stroke play qualifiers.
He improved on his lead with a six-stroke lead over Jet Hernandez, who carded a 78 for 158 followed by Jed Dy with a 79 for 163 over the course of two days.
Duque maintened her lead in the second day with an 83 but closed the lead to only two strokes behind Burberry Zhang, who finished with 81 for 162 followed by Samantha Dizon with an 80 for 164 in the Girls 15-18 divison.
Sean Young took the lead from Zachary Castro by five-strokes with his 78 and lead the Boys 13-14 with a four-stroke margin with 18 holes left to go.
Young, who came in as a shadow to Castro, posted a two-day total of 156 while the latter finished with an 83 for 160. Santino Pineda is at the third spot with 78 for 162.
Grace Pauline Quintanilla orchestrated a whopping 10-point lead over Alethea Paige Gaccion in the Girls 13-14 by carding a 76 to match her 82 during the first round.
Gaccion had 83 to land at a distant second with 168 followed by Kiara Therese Montebon, who scored an 83, at third for 169.
The final round of Class A and B continues today at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club while Classes C to F will take place simultaneously starting on Friday, February 28, at the Club Intramuros and Riviera Sports Club.
Top players in the qualifying tournament will represent the country to the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California on July 6 to 10.

RAMOS, DUQUE TAKE EARLY IMG ACADEMY JUNIOR WORLD QUALIFIER LEAD

Sean Jean Ramos bucked the tough and windy course conditions with his gutsy three-over par 75 and seized a five-stroke lead at the opening day of the 2020 IMG Academy Junior World Qualifiers held on Saturday at the Norman Course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.
The Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist, Ramos posted a 38-37 showing to open his campaign on the hope to duplicate his appearance in the IMG Junior World Championships slated in July.
Ramos was followed by Jet Hernandez with his 80, banking on rounds of 39 and 41, in the Boys’ 15-18 division. Santino Diokno is in the third position with 81.
Faustina Laurea Duque is in command of control in the Girls’ 15-18 by posting a 77 followed by Burberry Zhang at 81 and Mafy Singson at 83.
Meanwhile, Zachary Castro shot a five-over-77 to take the lead in the Boys 13-14. Sean Young was one stroke behind Castro with his 78 while Matthew Miguel Fabiala had 81.
Grace Pauline Quintanilla arranged an opening day score of 82 to lead by three over Alethea Paige Gaccio’s 85 and Kiara Therese Montebon’s 86.
The 54-hole stroke play competition for Class A and B will determine the country’s representative to the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California on July 6 to 10.
On the other hand, Classes C to F will take place simultaneously next week at the Club Intramuros and Riviera Sports Club.

TICZON DOMINATES EAGLE RIDGE JR TOURNEY

Pierre Gregory Ticzon bagged the overall championship in the 2020 Eagle Ridge Junior Golf Championship held last February 9 in General, Trias, Cavite.
The 17-year old Ticzon shot a 37 and 39 to finish with four-over-par 76.

Rho Hyun Ho carded a 76 (39-70) to lead the boy’s and girl’s 13-18 division. Samantha Dizon came in at second position with 77 (38-39) and beat second-runner up Jun Ha Hur in a countback.

Jet Hernandez landed at fourth position with 78 (40-38) while Masaichi Otake grabbed the fifth spot with a 79 (39-40).

Shinichi Suzuki topped the boy’s and girl’s 12-under division with 78 (37-41) followed by Bhuvas Nagpal at second with 78 (38-40), Mikhaella Constantino at 79 (37-42), Patrick Gene Tambalque at 86 (41-45), and Geu Rin Seo at 93 (51-42).

Top players in the age-group were led by Ticzon in the boy’s 15-18 followed by Koreans Rho Hyun ho and Jun Ha Hur.

Dominic Marel Villamor topped the boy’s 13-14 with 80 and won via countback over Dylan Thomas Castillo while Zachary Castro took the third spot with 81.

Suzuki, meanwhile, led the boy’s 11-12 with 78 followed by Nagpal and Tambalque.

Joachim Andreas Cadena sizzled with 109 to clinch the boy’s 10-under plum with Matthias Emmanuel Espina taking the second position with 122.

On the girl’s side, Samantha Dizon took the 15-18 top honors with 77 followed by Burberry Zhang with 81.

Jody Cassandra Castillo posted an 83 while runners-up Anya Cedo and Christiana Femela Castillo with 86 and 86 in the 13-14 division, respectively.

Mikahella Constantino seized the 11-12 trophy with a 79 followed by Gloria Seo with 93.

Margaux Namoco scored a 114 to top the 10-under category.

ILAS TOPS FALDO QUALIFIERS

Armando Miguel Ilas IV capped a sterling performance with 10-under par 206 to snare the overall championship in the 2020 Faldo Series Philippine Qualifier held last January 24 to 26 at the Valley Golf and Country Club.

Ilas opened his campaign with a five-under par 67 only to duplicate it on the next day before closing out with even par-72 for a 206 aggregate.

Playing under the Boys 16-under, Ilas was followed by Sean Granada at second position with 210 (70-71-69).

Ilas will lead the country’s campaign in the 14th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final slated from March 4 to 6 in Laguna Lang Co, Vietnam.

Going alongside Ilas is Aldo Barro, who emerged as the Boys 21-under champion after scoring 250-aggregate, banking on three-day scores of 86-80-84.

Masaichi Otake claimed the top honors in the Boys 18-under with 212 (70-73-69) followed by first runner-up Paolo Joaquin Barro with 215 (70-74-71).

Jona Angela Magcalayo, meanwhile, topped the distaff 21-under with her 240 (79-80-81). Mariel Isabella Tee came in at second with 249 (79-84-86).

Rianne Malixi snared the Girls 16-under honors in a nail-biting fashion over runner-up Burberry Zhang via two-hole playoff after scoring identical 225s.

Malixi and Zhang first playoff hole ended with both par until Zhang bogeyed the next playoff hole while Malixi finished with a par.

On the other hand, Bhuvas Nagpal topped the non-qualifying Boys 11-12 division with 169 followed by Vitto Miravite (84-78, 162), and Rafael Armando Ilas V (85-85, 170).

In the Boys 9-10, Armand Copok had 169 (74-80) to beat Scott Ng (94-78, 172) and Aenzo Sulaik (106-105, 211).

Reese Ng shone in the Girls 11-12 with her 155 (77-78) while Gabie Rosca landed at second with 157 (73-84) and Stevie Umali in third place with 162 (84-78).

BORLONGAN BAGS TOP HONOR IN INTRAMUROS JUNIOR TILT

Juliane Borlongan emerged as overall champion in the Club Intramuros Golf Championship held last January 11 to 12 at the Club Intramuros Golf Course in Manila.

Borlongan, who hails from Cagayan De Oro, carded a two-day total of 137 banking on rounds of 72 and 65 to snare the top honors and bag the JGFP girls’ 15-18 age group crown via sudden death playoff against Sean Granada, who also assembled a two-day aggregate of 137.

Hyunkyung Jeong sizzled with 167 (86- 81) while Annika Chua posted 180 (95- 85) for second and third places, respectively.

Sean Granada finished with 137 (72- 65) to top the 13-18 division followed by Hanson Lim with 152 (74- 78), James Lubguban with 153 (82 71), Liam Harvey with 155 (77- 78), and Santino Pineda with 161 (86- 75).

The 12-under division was bannered by Shinichi Suzuki after scoring a 143 (73-70). Suzuki was followed by Scott Ng at first runner-up with 145 (71- 74) while second runner-up Zachary Villaroman had 150 (77-73). Stevie Umali and Tristan Padilla settled for fourth and fifth places with 150 (70-80) and 153 75-78), respectively.

The Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) age-group winners for boys’ 10-under were Scott Ng 71-74 (145), Tristan Padilla 75 -78 (153), and Jakob Taruc 75-81 (156) while Stevie Umali topped the distaff with 70-80 (150) followed by Coco Ong with 84-82 (166) and Angelie Chua with 106-118 ( 224).

Other winners were (boys’ 11-12) Shinichi Suzuki 143 (73-70), Zachary Villaroman 150 (77-73), Patrick Tambalque 154 (79-75); (girls’ 11-12) Bianca Macatangay 160 (78-82), Mikhaella Constantino 162 (84-78), Venice Tiamsic 165 (84-81); (boys’ 13-14) Hanson Lim 152 (74-78), Santino Pineda 161 (86-75), Andrew Chua 170 (90-80); and (girls’ 13-14) Christiana Castillo 162 (82-80), and Sabrina Macatangay 164 (81-83).

The Club Intramuros Junior golf tilt is the second leg of the JGFP Circuit under the 2019 – 2020 season and is a Junior Order of Merit certified tournament.

The tournament was backed by the Tourisim Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA). Intramuros Golf Club will also be re-launching its night golf in February.
