Southeast Asian Games-bound Aidric Jose Chan pulled an impressive come-from-behind performance with a 3-under 69 that netted him a one stroke victory versus Jimmy Zheng of New Zealand on Friday (Saturday in Manila) in the 2019 IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, California.
Chan carded a four-day total 277, banking on rounds of 72-69-67-69 to seal his victory in the biggest junior golf event.
He scored six birdies to negate his three bogeys at the Torres Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, CA during the fourth round.
Chan rose from the ranks, coming from the 26th spot in Day 1 then jumped to fifth place before landing at tied third in the penultimate round in the boys’ 15-18 division.
Zheng scored a 1-under par 71 in the last round to finish at 10-under par 278 to settle for runner-up finish.
Ben Lorenz of United States and Connor McKinney of Australia shared the third position with 9-under par 279.
The day before, Rianne Malixi wounded up for second place in the girls’ 11-12 division with a three-day total of 10-under-par 209 (72-70-67).
