HERNANDEZ RULES EAGLE RIDGE JUNGOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Jet Hernandez powered an even-par 72 to secure the top honors during the Eagle Ridge Junior Golf Championship (ERJGC) held last February 3 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.

The 14-year old Hernandez fired five birdies to negate his late double mishap at Aoki’s hole No. 18.

Besides the overall championship, Hernandez bagged the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) Honors for Boy’s 13 to 14 division.

Meanwhile, Sean Jean Ramos finished with a 77-total to claim the crown in the Boy’s 13-18 division of ERJGC.

Ramos was followed by first and second runners-up Rho Hyun Ho and Sean Dominique Granada, who both carded 78, respectively.

Burberry Zhang dominated the same age group with Ramos after scoring a 79. Faustina Laurea Duque came in at second position with 83 while Sabrina Macatangay had 88 for third place.

The 12-under boy’s category was bannered by Santino Pineda, who won via countback against Vince Tiamsic, after both players finished with an 85. Miko Granda settled for third position with 88.

Rianne Mikhaela Malixi subdued Francesca Gan also by countback, 79-79, to clinch the first honors in the girl’s 12-under. Venice Tiamsi had 81 to finish at second runner-up.

On the other hand, leading the packed of JGFP Honors awardees were Francesca Gan (79), Venice Tiamsic (81) and Celine Abalos (83) in the 10-under girls.

Luis Ballesteros (89) topped the boy’s 10-under followed by Shiniichi Suzuki with 93 and Scott Nicholas Ng with 94.

The Top 3 jungolfers for the boy’s 11-12 were Santino Pineda (85), Vince Tiamsic (85), Miko Granada (88) while Rianne Mikhaela Malixi (79), Jeong Yeaheun (83), and Alethea Paige Gaccion (84) dominated the girl’s side.

With Hernandez headlining the 13-14 boy’s division, Rho Hyun Ho and Sean Granada came in at second and third places with identical 78s, respectively.

Other medalists in the JGFP age-group were Buberry Zhang (girl’s 13-14), Sabrina Macatangay (girl’s 13-14), Jody Cassandra Castillo (girl’s 13-14), Sean Jean Ramos (boy’s 15-18). Masaiichi Otake (boy’s 15-18), Jaco Riggs Illescas (boy’s 15-18), Faustina Laurea Duque (girl’s 15-18), Kang Dayun (girl’s 15-18), and Maria Sofia Encarnacion (girl’s 15-18).

The Eagle Ridge Junior Golf Championship was the fifth ranking event of Junior Order of Merit (JOOM) and served as a tune-up tournament for the upcoming IMG Academy Junior World qualifier, which will tee off on February 23 to 25 the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club and Riviera Sports Club.

Deadline of registration for the IMG Academy Junior World qualifier is on February 15. Summit Ridge backed the qualifying event as the official hotel partner and Philippine Airlines as the official carrier. 

JGFP is a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and development of junior golf in the country in order to create a competitive and fun environment, and help these players develop their skills and positively builds their character.
