Miguel Armando Ilas finished with two-over par 134 to emerge as the overall champion in the 2019 Club Intramuros Junior Golf Championship last January 20 in Manila.
Besides the overall crown, Ilas aced the hole No. 10 during the second round of the 36-hole championship backed by Decathlon Philippines, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), and venue sponsor Club Intramuros.
The third ranking event of the Junior Order of Merit gathered 60 junior golfers of different ages and skill levels.
Sean Dominique Granada topped the Boy’s 13-18 division after scoring 137 followed by Zachary Castro with 145 and Jaco Rigges Illescas with 147.
Pierre Gregory Ticzon and Israel settled at fourth and fifth places with 148 and 159, respectively.
In the Girl’s 13-18 division, Dayun Kang assembled a 149 to claim the first honors while Burberry Zhang finished four strokes behind the leader at 153. Jody Cassandra Castillo had 178 followed by Annika Sophia Chua with 196 and Julianna Krisitine Go with 205 in the same division.
The Top 5 players in the 12-under boys, meanwhile, were Santino Pineda with 151, Miko Granada with 153, Joaquin Arenas with 167, Scott Nicholas Ng with 168, and Rafael Armando Ilas with 170.
On the other hand, Rianne Malixi top scored in the Girl’s 12-under category with 141. Gabie Rosca followed Malixi by winning via countback against He Yeon Bang after both players scored 150. Hyeon Ju Park placed fourth with 150 while Ga Hui Kim landed at fifth with 152.
The event also featured an enriching seminar dubbed “Harnessing Life Skills through Golf and Education.” Among the notable speakers who shared their expertise were US NCAA Division 1 golf athlete parent Sam Pagdanganan, undisputed Junior World record holder and first Filipino recipient of US college golf scholarship Carito Villaroman, and first triple-winner of the Junior World Golf Championship Ramon Brobio.
