Jacob Rolida turned out to be the overall champion with lowest gross in the Faldo Series Qualifiers Philippines held last November 30 to December 2 at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club.
Rolida, competing in the boy’s 18-under division, finished with creditable gross of 236-aggregate ,built on rounds of 82-81-73, to wrest the honor in representing the Philippines to the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final set in 2019 at the Laguna Lang Co, Vietnam.
He was followed by second placer Joaquin Gomez, who was at the distance with 256.
Alfonso Dominic Barro, meanwhile, secured one of the five slots at stake after topping the boy’s 21-under division with 281 total.
Barro defeated runner-up Guilbert Purcia IV by six strokes at 287.
In the boy’s 16-under division, Miguel Armando Ilas IV carded a 244 to clinch another berth in the prestigous international tournament that aims to create access to the sport for younger audience through grassroots initiative.
Jaco Riggs Illescas settled for second position with 248 in the boy’s 16-under.
For the girl’s side, Sofia Chabon and Dayun Kang received the last two qualifying certificates with their stellar performances.
Chabon sizzled with 238 to be declared champion in the girl’s 18-under division while Kang had 245 to win over Faustina Laurea Duque by five strokes, 250, in the girl’s 16-under.
On the other hand, non-qualifying division winners were Vince Jacob Tiamsic with 266 (boy’s 11-12), Rafael Leonio with 249 (boy’s 9-10), Gabie Rosca with 234 (girl’s 11-12), and Celine Abalos with 245 (girl’s 9-10).
Created by renowned English professional golfer Nick Faldo in 1996, the Series is being staged in 30 countries worldwide for junior golfers to compete in high level of competitions against the best players in the world.
