The Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) will roll off its Junior Club Circuit beginning on Sunday, November 25, with the Royal Northwoods Golf and Country Club being the maiden host of a new season for the junior golf community.
Dubbed as the 1st Royal Northwoods Junior Golf Championships, the inaugural leg is expected to draw more than 70 jungolfers who will test their mettle over 18 holes using the stroke play format.
“It is an exciting milestone for the whole junior golf community. We are excited to breed new junior golfers who are on the line to become the next best players of their generation. The Junior Club Circuit is an opportunity for our players, not just to show off their skills and talents, but build camaraderie among golfers of their age,” said JGFP vice-president Bobby Pineda.
Pineda mentioned that they are introducing the Junior Order of Merit that aims to establish a ranking system for all junior golfers in the country ages 13 to 18.
“The new ranking system will be significant in serving the country’s junior golf association in terms of monitoring the players’ progress over the season,” Pineda said.
The new system will be of help and guidance to the organization in selecting representatives for invitational tournaments where a qualifying event is not included.
Along with the benefit of the ranking system is that it will act as a useful reference for junior players who aims to pursue a US college golf scholarship in a later time.
The ranking of players for JOOM will be computed on the Score-Based System (SBS) and the Event Point system.
The current SBS ranking for this season, which shall cover tournaments from November 1, 2018 until October 31, 2019, will be established after a player submitted minimum of eight 18-hole rounds, provided it is a duly-sanctioned ranking event by JGFP.
As the player submits more scores the entire season, his/her eight recent scores shall reflect his/her stroke average that will be ranked accordingly among all other eligible players.
Meanwhile, players who played in major local and international competitions shall earn bonus points through the event points system. However, actual major tournaments are on the line for consideration.
The second tranche of the Junior Club Circuit, on the other hand, is slated on January 20, 2019, at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.
JGFP is a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and development of Philippine Golf in order to create a competitive and fun environment for junior golfers of all abilities that will help them develop their skills and positively builds their character.
